Oh, I know the stress, believe me! Whether it’s a schedule crises or a budget crises, more than once Christmas Eve has seen me scrambling to get the last few present (or all of the presents.) I admire and kind of feel angsty toward people who are sitting in front of their fire, tree lit, all of the presents bought and wrapped beautifully. But I mostly admire them and hope to be them some day.
Today ain’t that day for me.
So here are some not-so-secret tips for last minute shopping.
Of course, you KNOW I’m going to recommend buying a Book Club Membership for each family on your list (or only your favorite families,) but we’ll save that for the end.
1. Make up your mind that you’re going to be polite no matter what.
You’ve seen that Meme right? If you’ve waited until Mary’s water broke to go out and buy Christmas presents please remember that it’s not the sales persons fault if they are all sold out etc. So yes, before I get out of my parked car. I give myself a pep talk.
2. Think outside of the box.
You’re not going to be wanting to buy the thing that everyone else is buying… It will be sold out!!! This is a good time to shop locally for bespoke gifts (that’s a fancy work that I think means somewhat unique, one-of-a-kind etc. comment below and let me know if I’m wrong. 😀 ) Local tea, local coffee, local craft items, go down-town where-ever you live, I think the shop owners will really appreciate it.
Also, think about things your loved one likes to use which might be a little pricey (fancy shampoo, lotions, fancy journals or office supplies, tools that have been lost but not replaced.)
3. Christmas Eve? Make sure they are open.
So Google Maps is a really, really handy tool to save you driving all over God’s green earth and being disappointed by closed and locked doors. I mean, I know that Walmart is open Christmas Eve, but I’m pretty clueless about anyone else being open. You can be sure I’m going to be checking tomorrow before I head out!
4. It’s really, really too late for Christmas Shopping on Amazon.
That’s unless you’re planning your get-together at New Years, and even then, it might be iffy. But you probably knew that, right?
5. Home-made gifts may be your friend.
It depends. 😀
If it needs glue or long drying times (some painting projects… Maybe not.) However, hot glue may be your friend. Here are a list of things off the top of my head that could work well:
- English Toffee
- Crochet Hat
- Cookie Mix Jars (make sure you have the ingredients.)
- Coupons (I’ll do the dishes for a year might be appreciated.)
- Online Coupons or Gift Certificates that you can print out.
- Theater Tickets
6. So, along the idea of gifts you can purchase online…
Really, a Book Club Membership is an incredible value that makes a great family for any family that lives in the Springfield or Bolivar area (we’re just 30 minutes from either one, in Walnut Grove.)
- Buy it for your own family.
- Buy it for your family member who is a teacher.
- Buy a membership for your grandkids to share.
- Buy it for your special someone.
- Buy it for your grandparents or parents.
- Buy it for your homeschooling daughter or son.
